The enhancements we have made include improving EGR system, modifying the main timing in normal driving conditions for maximum fuel economy and changing the pilot injections to maintain the same engine noise as production.
Other enhancements include governor changes to enhance driveline stability, reduce vibration and provide better throttle tip-in response. This makes a world of difference in normal city driving, passing maneuvers and trailer towing. The EVIC calculation has been adjusted to make it more accurate and the fuel level sensor is now linear so every quarter tank is roughly 5 gallons. For CRDs that see high ambient temps or high loads during towing, we turn on the electric fan when transmission fluid temp rises beyond normal operating temps.
Additionally, due to customer complaint, the brake switch torque limitation has been removed so that a customer can hold the brake and accelerator pedal at the same time while driving.
The base calibration was first completed on a chassis rolls dynamometer outfitted with instrumentation for optimization of fuel economy and performance. At all load points we changed boost pressure, rail pressure, main timing and pilot timings inside the ECU calibration in order to achieve optimum fuel economy while limiting tailpipe smoke emissions and still having an increased torque production for a cleaner, quicker vehicle.
We further optimized the real world drivability by utilizing thermocouples, smoke meters, and speed sensors while driving on the highway in multiple driving conditions and scenarios.
Unlike other companies we also invested time into optimizing the entire calibration. Not only is the calibration optimized for regular driving, it is also improved on warm up of the engine and in adverse climates such as elevation or colder ambient temperatures unlike other chips/tuners. |
