My torque converter is doing the infamous stall the engine when going from reverse to drive, so I just ordered the Euro TQ. Once I get it in the shop and start the project, I will be sending in my TCM for the flash. Things were not supposed to happen like this, I was not going to change my TQ just for this flash, but as fate has it, here we go. 1 Jeep down, 1 to go.

Hmm, mine has been doing that more frequently as well. That's one of the signs the TC is crapping the bed?

The stalling is a good sign that the TC is nearing the end of its useable life. A leaking drainback valve may alse be an issue here, but typically if is fails the trans will just not engage reverse when selected and after 10-20 seconds the pump finally pushes enough fluid back into the circuit to allow engagement and torque transfer. If this engagement is abrupt it could potentially cause an engine stall.

Well, it went in reverse, back out into the street, then I went to drive, and it came to an abrupt stop. So, would you think it was still not getting fluid, even though it went into reverse just fine? What is the drain back valve, is it the valve in the spin on filter? To make matters worse, my wife said she put the other Libby in reverse and it stalled on her as well. Mr.Mopar says this is classical TC failure.

The drain back valve would only effect the first engagement, not the situation you just mentioned. A new TC is peace of mind in your situation as it will only keep deteriorating. Don't wait too long as eventually particles can go through the system and damage the pump if anything gets past the filters.

Never fear, it is on jackstands, and I am up to "remove the crossmember and the 2 upper bell housing bolts."

Just some thing else My 06 liberty was in shop oem to install t/c update it was doing all kinds of goofy things when I got it back with update done . One was this stalling when backing out of drive . Took it back to them they could not get it to do it even after keeping it a few days. So run it some more and dumby me thought to check trans oil yes it was up to run on stick but it did not look right looked like a light pink here it was foam it took a gallon to bring it up to level and get the foam out . Just something to watch. Beginning to wonder who you can trust to do something right.

Low fluid is not something that my Libby had. But a good tip for others.
