My 2005 CRD with approximately 225,000 has been running 20-30 deg warmer than in the past. Lately the temperature gauge climbs quickly to 170-190 deg. The temp of upper and lower radiator hoses are about 170 deg while the thermostat housing is around 190-200. It has either been boiling off coolant or leaking somewhere since level in reservoir gets low. The thermostat has never been changed.

Seems like restriction possible in thermostat. The egr valve was replaced in spring when weather was cooler. Electric fan is coming on , not sure how mechanical fan is working. It was replaced about 20,000 ago.

Thermostats are pricey and water pumps are time consuming to get to.

Looking for suggestions for cause of temp increase and any cause for concern.

Thanks.
